Dr. Lorraine Purino

Dr. Lorraine Purino

Dr. Lorraine Purino is a highly trained and experienced Neurologist, sub-specializing in Neuromuscular diseases. She is a compassionate physician with over 20 years of experience serving the Los Angeles area in academic settings, private practices, and HMO communities. Dr. Purino is currently a principal investigator at SC3 Research Group, Inc., where she is involved in research protocols for Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and other neurological diseases.

Initially, she worked her way through college caring for mentally challenged children and adults. She received her bachelor's degree in Biology, Psychology, and Pre-Med at Boston College, her Doctorate of Medicine degree at Wayne State University in Michigan, and completed her Internal Medicine internship and Neurology residency at Veterans Administration-Wadsworth, an affiliate of UCLA. Dr. Purino completed a Fellowship in Neuromuscular Diseases at UCLA where she participated in a research study for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). She attended the J. Kiffin Penry Mini-Fellowship in Epilepsy at Wake Forest University. Dr. Purino is triple board-certified and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology with special qualifications in Neuromuscular diseases. She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

Who is the expert speaker for this event?

The expert speaker for this event is Dr. Lorraine Purino, a clinical researcher with extensive experience in neurological disorders.

Dr. Purino is a sub-specialist in Neuromuscular diseases, which involves the nerves and muscles. As a partner physician at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Woodland Hills, she was the Neuromuscular specialist for all Southern California Kaiser Permanente patients with conditions such as Myasthenia Gravis, Guillain Barre Syndrome, ALS, and Neuropathy. She also operated a specialized Botox clinic to treat diseases such as Torticollis, Dystonia, or intractable spasms due to Stroke or Multiple Sclerosis.

Dr. Purino has been recognized for her clinical acumen, receiving both the “Outstanding Physician Award” and the “Annual Merit Award” at Kaiser Permanente. Dr. Purino joined a private five-neurologist practice, the largest in the western U.S. solely devoted to consultations and testing for disorders of the nerves and muscles. With this experience, she has performed more than 11,000 consultations and electrical nerve and muscle studies (EMGs).

Dr. Purino has extensive experience as a caring Neurologist for over 20 years serving the Los Angeles area in academic settings, private practices and in HMO communities. She has broad experience and has evaluated all Neurology conditions such as Headache, Chronic Pain, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer's Disease, and Multiple Sclerosis.
